Greetings to you all
The Sun is currently in Libra
23rd September to 23rd October 2008

Librans are the diplomats of the zodiac. They thrive on social interaction, developing ties with others and forming lasting partnerships. Hence their motto is "I relate". They live to achieve harmony and balance, to cultivate an environment of cooperation, and strive at all times to be objective. Therefore white lies and persuasive manipulation are not beneath them, especially if they believe it will achieve their aims. A dysfunctional Libran can be full of bright ideas but lazy and lacking ambition. Despite the fact that they are peace-loving you will invariably find them amongst discord for that is their calling - to achieve harmony out of discord and strife opens the way for love and beauty. This is explained further in the myth of Venus.
Venus is the Ruling Planet
The myth of the Roman Venus has evolved from her Greek predecessor Aphrodite. The birth of Aphrodite was both unusual and violent. Her father Ouranos (Uranus), the sky god, was paranoid of his children believing they could usurp his power, and after each birth pushed the child back into his partner Gaia (Earth). Eventually Gaia tired of this behaviour and implored Ouranos to stop but he wouldn't. She implored her children to come out and help but only Chronos (Saturn) was brave enough to face their father. One night, when Ouranos lay with Gaia Chronos took him by surprise. He cut off Ouranos' genitals and threw them into the sea. The drops of blood created the Furies and out of the resultant sea foam was born Aphrodite, who became the Goddess of Love. So, while Venus rules love and beauty it is tinged with disharmony and strife; the two go hand in hand. Venus loves to be nice and be treated well in kind. She is a svelt energy in our chart, coloured by the sign she sits in. Where Venus in Leo loves attention and is generous to a fault, Venus in Pisces is attuned to subtler energies floating in the ether, and Venus in Libra enjoys company and rarely ventures out alone.
The 7th House is the associated domain
In this house we learn to relate to another person as being totally separate from ourselves. This house shows us who we are and what we can expect when we are in relationships. The sign on the cusp describes the kind of people that fascinate us when we meet them. Points and planets in this house highlight what we will meet in others and need to integrate in ourselves (if we want to develop healthy, committed relationships). This is also the house of open enemies, and your partner can bring to the surface parts of yourself you have kept hidden from yourself. Know that the people we are extremely attracted to, or repulsed by, possess parts of ourselves we deny or project. The reality is that they represent the shadow within ourselves. Falling in love can be a very transformative experience. At first everything is wonderful, compelling, safe and familiar, and you feel you've met your "soul mate". When the "glow" wears off, each person begins to find fault with each other and a crisis can occur. Ideally the relationship must change so each person can differentiate, integrate and express their own 7th house. In order to create healthy relationships we start by looking inside ourselves, and this is something many people fear and avoid. When love turns to hate, one or both partners were unable to overcome their unconscious projections, and this pattern is likely to repeat until they do the inner work.
What's happening in the heavens?
22nd July to 23rd August 2008
Change is this month's theme. In fact, it is the theme of the year. In Melbourne, the last degree of Gemini leads us into Libra - the joker leads the diplomat into a cosy trap. The very same day, the Moon opposes Jupiter. Look at the areas of your life where excess is impeding your ability to focus on what really matters. The tendency to overreact and sulk will give you a clue as to what needs to be reined in. Water signs are particulary prone to this energy - learn to harness it today and move on from there.
We should see a few days of diplomacy before it starts to get ugly. Mars, Venus and Mercury combine in Libra to make interactions as pleasant as possible, but as Mars is uncomfortable in this sign there will be a level of frustration with it. When Venus enters Scorpio on 25th and begins to get nasty the frustration climbs to fever pitch. The Moon enters Libra on the 30th to create a stellium with the Sun, Mercury and Mars and eventually glides in between Mercury and Mars. Niceties aside, the need to act on impulse is driven by an underlying desire to be liked by everyone. White lies abound to the point where we can't be sure of the truth. Smile sweetly but be on guard for the backstabbers. Gossip favours the 'beautiful' and the 'ugly' are under attack. This is the shallow side of Libra at it's worst. But notice that beauty can be very ugly, and the so called ugly can often mask dignity and grace.
Over the course of the next 5 weeks Saturn and Uranus are perfecting their opposition. Tradition versus revolution, the old versus the new, conformist versus maverick, convention versus innovation. One upholds the status quo while the other questions it and tears it downs. These two energies are definitely at odds with each other and global stability is threatened. Batten down the hatches for the storm is coming, bringing chaos and confusion. The aspect becomes exact on the day of the US election when the Moon will also be void of course. Anything and nothing may happen but if nothing happens then an eerie silence holds the promise of more to come, and it will most cetainly be unexpected in quantity and quality.
Around the 7th October, diplomacy is at its best. This would be a good time to ask for a raise, a holiday, a promotion, and review your portfolio. We are headed for financially tough times so consolidate and get sound advice. Had you acted 2 days earlier the results would have been very disappointing indeed.
As the Moon snuggles up with Neptune on the 11th, sensitivity rises and resistance slumps. Lay low, stay warm, meditate and listen to soothing but innovative tunes. Despite the way you feel, inspiration is high and your imagination will welcome the attention. In our busy lives we forget to take time out to review and revitalise. Do it now before it does you in.
Mid-month, Pisceans, and Scorpios find romance; whether together or with another it will be sweet and unexpected and a little bit challenging just to keep you on your toes
In the last weeks of October harsh words fly and tempers explode when a misunderstanding escalates. The only way out of this is to take time out or try gentle negotiation. But a short time apart will help tempers to subside first.
